In 1619, after a stormy voyage across the Atlantic, the Good Ship Margaret landed at Berkeley Hundred with thirty-six men aboard. In accordance with instructions from the Virginia Company, these settlers observed the first official English Thanksgiving in the New World. Join us at Berkeley Plantation on November 1, 2026, as we commemorate this historic event at the annual VirginiaThanksgiving Festival.
Festival admission is $25 per car and includes activities for the entire family.
Festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. with a parade led by the Williamsburg Pipes and Drums. Throughout the day, families can enjoy colonial games, crafts, a petting zoo, and hands-on demonstrations. Live entertainment includes magician Jonathon Austin, the Chickahominy Tribal Dancers, Colonial Singers of Williamsburg, and the Itinerant Band. A captivating shadow box production using light, shadow, and a moving panoramic backdrop will tell the story of the first Thanksgiving. In celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary, Patrick Henry’s legendary “Give me liberty or give me death” speech will be brought to life in a special performance by reenactor Stephen Wilson.
At 3:00 p.m., visitors gather for the re-enactment of the 1619 landing, moderated by Bill Bevins. The day concludes with the Chickahominy Tribal Dancers leading the traditional Friendship Dance, inviting audience participation.
